    Outlook 2000 & Net Folders

    Locked

I am currently running Outlook 2000 on client machines with MS Mail on a Netware server. Netfolders is also installed on every client to give everyone the ability to view each others schedules. As you know, Outlook sends invisible e-mails when it updates calendar information to other clients. The problem everyone is having is that these e-mails activate the notification feature of Outlook. For example, when a true e-mail arrives, an envelope appears to notify the user that a message arrived. Unfortunately, it does the same thing when a netfolder update e-mail arrives. Outlook was designed to read the netfolder e-mail, update the folder, and then delete it. Any ideas how to work around this flaw? I am now considering switching to Groupwise or some other group package. Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks for your feedback.

Unfortunately, this seems to be a built-in notification. I have the notification turned off on my, but the little envelope still appears. I’ll be following this one closely, that might be something I don’t know.
As for groupwise, have you considered Exchange? It eliminates the need for envitation and netfolders all together. The sharing of folders is seemless and easy to setup, plus it works the way it should.

      That’s my bit!

      Good Luck!

I had the same problem on my LAN. People were ready to hang me by my toes because they kept getting “new mail” notifications but no new mail was forthcoming. I spent a good amount of time looking for an answer, and the answer turned out to be: there is no answer. Net folder messages always trip the notification switch. I’ve conditioned my people to look at their inbox before getting too excited.
Microsoft has no useful info on this, and the response I got from tech support was basically “live with it.”
Let me know if you find a way!
