I backed up my entire hard drive on my onetouch Maxtor III 300GB. I then upgraded to Vista. Now when I want to get my emails from outlook I don't know how. I have done searches for .pst files and there aren't any. Any help is appreciated as I have no addresses and no important emails. I even thought that I had exported them to a file......help

Are you looking in the right place?

by NickNielsen In reply to Outlook

For both Windows 2000 and XP, your mail files should be in the following folder on your saved C: drive: \Documents and Settings\userid\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{identity}\Microsoft\Outlook.

Don't import the entire identity, just import the files and you should be OK.

Edit: corrected path

As most of that File Path is Hidden Folders

by HAL 9000 Moderator In reply to Outlook

You'll have to set Vista to unhide the Hidden Files & Folders or you'll be unable to find them.

When you have then all you need do is Import them into Win Mail if I remember correctly or whatever Vista calls that program.

You may find this useful although I personally don't see much of any use in it but M$ has a Windows Vista Community Web Site located here

They may be able to offer some help in how to unhide Folders.

It depends on how the backup was done

by NickNielsen In reply to As most of that File Path ...

And how the backup software accesses the files. Most that I'm familiar with will allow you to browse the file list, view all files regardless of attributes, and restore selected files. Many will also allow you to sort the display by the end directory.

But you know this already.
