Outlook 365 finds an imap folder among others that is locked.

    by pjwallis ·

    Windows Microsoft outlook 365
2 users are accessing the same imap mail server with lots of folders.
One of the users has found a folder that they can’t add an email to as a sub folder under the inbox. The other user and myself have no problems adding or deleting emails from this folder

Why is one user unable to access the folder because of “permissions”?

Where do I find the permissions?

Thanks for your thoughts and help.

    Peter

Just curious, what version of Windows are you using? Do you have the latest updates? Not enough information provided.

The permissions are defined in the mail server. For example, this is for a business account in Exchange: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/set-or-change-permissions-for-a-public-folder-b2e0440c-7873-48ec-9ff2-b1a20b723005

But imap isn’t Exchange, I think. Better ask the postmaster or the customer service of the server that the users email program is connected to using imap how it is done.

        Hi kees_b,

        Thanks for the reply.

My situation isn’t a public folder issue. This is an imap sub folder under the inbox. Out of say 60 folders one user can’t add an email to a specific folder while any of the other 59 folders are fine when an email is added.

There are 2 computers with the same user account accessing the same email address with the same sub folders. One of the users on one of the computers can’t move emails into only 1 of the sub folders of the imap account.

        The error is:
Cannot move the items. You don’t have permissions to create an entry in this folder. Right-click the folder, and then click Properties to check your permissions for the folders. See the folder owner or your administrator to change your permissions.

I have called the mob hosting the Axigen server which holds all the folders and there is only 1 permission for the account. Sub folders are on Outlook and following the above instructions yeilds NO access to Permissions as detailed.

Thank you for your thoughts and help,
        Peter Wallis

Now copy one of the 59 correctly working folders into a new one (number 61) and delete all mails in it. Can this one user move an e-mail into this new folder? Seems likely, doesn’t it?
Then copy all contents of the old incorrect folder into the new folder 61 Everything still OK?
Then rename the old incorrect folder to something else and rename the new 61 to the name of the incorrect folder, that is now available. Does it still work?
