(I am using Outlook 2002 but this problem also existed when I was using Outlook 2000).

Whenever I initiate Outlook (click on the Outlook icon), the following error message appears: "The add-in "C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee VirusScan\scanemal.dll" could not be installed or loaded. This problem may be resolved by using Detect and Repair on the Help menu. Unable to load "C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee VirusScan..". You may be out of memory, out of system resources, or missing a .dll file."

This has been happening since I uninstalled McAfee weeks ago. I've tried taking the steps suggested in the error message and have looked on the Microsoft tech pages as well as newsgroups but have been unable to find anyone else with a similar dilemma.

If any one has any suggestions, I sure would appreciate it immensely.

Joe:

This is a well known problem with Outlook.

It stems from Outlook using Mcafee Virus Scan, as its default virus scanner, when you installed Outlook.

You could do either of two things: Uninstall and reinstall Outlook, or reinstall your Mcafee Virus Scan software back in its original location.

There is a log file within Outlook, that has the old McAfee virus located in it, but I'm not sure what it is or exacly where's its located. Maybe someone else knows this.

But if you don't want to re-install your virus software, then uninstall & reinstall Outlook (without having McAffe installed) and this should take care of the problem.

You could try searching the registry for "C:\Program Files\McAfee\McAfee VirusScan.." and removing or altering the key.
