outlook 97 password

By mwogaman ·
situation:
Gateway laptop running Win98 & M$ Office 97 off of an NT server. There were 3 users (two temp interns and one permanent employee) and now we are down to one. Every time this one user starts Outlook, he had to select the profile and then enter a password. We now have it so it always uses his profile, but it still asks for a password every time. I have searched for a "switch" under control panel's "mail & fax", "users", and "network" but cannot find anything. I have also looked in outlook under tools > options & services...without any luck. Am I missing something?

outlook 97 password

by Lizzy In reply to outlook 97 password

Hi. Make sure that under the network applet that the MS client is set to Log on and restore Network connections (instead of the Quick log on). Have the Admin reset or recover the users password to the server. Make sure that the user is forced to enter a new password at his\her workstation. Sometimes the passwords at workstations get out of sync and this fixes it. Hope this helps.

the restore network connections was greyed out (unaccessible). the problem was that the user was not logging onto the domain, but into a workgroup. in addition, he was using two different passwords...thanks.

Also check and see if you are using a personal folder and it is the one asking for the password.
