Outlook 97 won't send mail

By quaggazubu ·
Outlook 97 won't send mail. After I try to send, the message remains in the outbox. Sometimes it italized, sometimes it has symbol that looks like a piece of lined paper next to an envelope. When I open the email it says "this message has not been sent". I have tried everything I can think of. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Outlook 97 won't send mail

Go to your tools menu I think, and select SEND and RECEIVE mail, if this does nothing, go into your options/settings and check that the mail is setup for your MAIL provider ie SMTP.MAIL.COM.AU for SMTP, POP settings ect, If you are dialing up, make sure you can dial in okay, dial-in first and try, also check the the settings are telling MAIL to use a modem connection if that is what your are using, not a ISDN loine or Direct to Network, ect.

go to where you set up you mail account.
check tab for servers
check that the pop3 and smtp are set for the mail settings required for your account.
example
pop3= mail.btinternet.com
smtp= mail.btinternet.com
Your ISP will give you the mail server settings it requires for mail.
Another problem can be caused by Norton Virus
changing these settings

hope this helps
luck :)
