Outlook 98 - form display error - HELP!

By dbrown ·
Our users use an Outlook form for their timecard. No changes have been made to the form or any other forms stored in the Organization forms. 4 users to date, are unable to open form receiving error "The form you selected could not be displayed". Wehave installed the form in the personal forms and deleted it forcing it to reinstall locally but it won't work this time. Please give us any ideas you might have. We are worried that by Friday we will have a major problem on our hands. Thanks!

Outlook 98 - form display error - HELP!

Did you change security settings or apply security patches during this period? If the form contains macros, that may be stopping you.

If you have anyone using Outlook 2000 who might have touched the form, certain features would prevent the form from being seen in Outlook 98.

Good luck.

We haven't changed any settings or security patches. No macros either...We only have one user that has Outlook 2000 and she only uses the form..would never do anything else to it. We have discovered that it is affected users that we had just installed RMA (Commercial Lending Software) which has no email connections at all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated since the software company has yet to return any of our calls.

Thanks!!

Try clearing your Forms Cache. From the Outlook menu click Tools, Options. Click the Other tab, Advanced Options button, Custom Forms button, Manage Forms button and the Clear Cache button.

Still looking for any help anyone can give us!! Thanks!! We have narrowed it down to 4 users that we just installed a new informational software for Commercial loans. We have tried everything we can think of to include - service packs, deinstalling& reinstalling Outlook, changed profiles in NT and have also discovered that no one can bring up the time card on those pc's.
Thanks for ANY help!!

It is beginning to sound like the loan software is walking on something that the form needs. Is the loan software based on Visual Basic (or something like Access which uses VB)? It may be walking on a DLL.

Suggestions -
(This one may take a while)
Using a text editor, look at the .inf file associated with the loan program install. This will tell you what files get installed, where they go, and what registry keys get altered. Print the list. Now do the same for Outlook. See which, if any files, both install.

By the way, have you tried upgrading the affected workstations to Outlook 2000?

Another thing to check: On the affected stations, can you create and use ANY forms? If so, what happens when you move the source code for the timecard form to one of those stations and run it? If it works, publish it under a different name and see if everyone can run it. If it only runs for the stations with the loan software, you need to maintain two versions, but that is better than nothing.

Good luck.

Thanks! I de-installed Outlook 97 and installed Outlook 2000. It made me also remove office97 and reinstall it. Then to stay with the standard, I removed Outlook 2000 and reintalled Outlook 98. It worked and I think Outlook 2000 fixed the file that was I was having a problem with. What a mess but it works now. Thanks!
