Outlook Address Book

Got a problem with a client's Outlook 2003 client.

He wants to add his contact list to the list of address books in Outlook

He has added a Outlook address book in Outlook Email Accounts but when he goes in Contacts and right clicks into outlook address book tab the "Show this folder as an e-mail address book" is grayed out. He has cleaned out his settings in Outlook address book and tried again. Same problem. Even creating a new profile does not solve issue? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

I must confess confusion based on your description, but you may want to try this:

1. In Outlook, select Tools/Options/Mail setup/Email Accounts

2. Under 'Directory', select 'Add new directory or Address Book'/Next

3. Additional Address Books/Next

4. Personal Address Book/Next

5. Browse to desired location for Address Book and/or change address book name (if desired)

6. OK your way out of windows, exit and restart Outlook

7. Go to Address Book icon on Toolbar... new personal Address Book should be there.

I am working with the outlook 2007 version. the same thing is happening with it. the program did not automatically create an outlook email account. I have spent hours going through any suggestion there are - i even did what the previous response said to do, but it has not worked - i don't have the option of the personal address book and when i click on the outlook address book, it says it alredy exists.

i don't know what to do, so if something worked for you, let me know.

I think it is grayed out because you have not set up an address box. Do this:
(1) go to control panel/mail
(2) set up an address book, create an Outlook Address Book
(3) once this is created, you can get back into Outlook, right click your contacts, go to properties, and you should now see the check box enabled.

OK - the advice above just about solved my version of the problem, but this might help as well.

From the control panel:
Mail -> eMail Accounts -> View or change existing directories or address books

Remove the existing Outlook Address Book entry and Finish

At this point it's worth going into Outlook and checking you have no address book available. Exit Outlook again.

Then, from the control panel again, add-in a new Outlook address book using the "add a new directory or address book" option. Apply that change.

Restart Outlook - the first time it came up with Contacts now as the default address book, but no addresses.

Stop and start Outlook again, and the second time it comes up with the address details....

The reason the add contacts to outlook address book are grayed out is that the Outlook Address book is corrupt. Go to Tools>Email Accounts and select the Add Address book radial button. Select Outlook Address book not Personal Address Book. Click next until finished. You will then need to close outlook by selecting File>Exit. Re-open outlook and then you should be able to check the add to Outlook Address Book.
