Outlook and IBM Dialer

By sean_henry ·
I have a 600X running SP5 under NT. Outlook connects fine when on the network and the dialer works off the network, but Outlook does not. I've tried the RAS, RPC connection but nothing works. I know it's simple, but where do I start?

Outlook and IBM Dialer

NT remembers the routes for the NIC card.

Try the following:
Off the network, start the dialup session
Goto a command prompt
Type "route print"
You are going to see multiple routes - you will most likely see the existing routes for the nic card as well.
Several solutions here:
You can "route delete" the existing NIC routes or if you are using DHCP you can release the lease. Either of these will remove the existing routes.

What does this boil down to? the routes from the NIC card "confuse" Outlook - it thinks the NIC card is active and tries to route via the NIC interface to the Exchange Server ... even when the NIC is not connected. The route deletes or DHCP lease removal remove the routes and resolve the problem. You can also create a different config to "remove" the NIC card when offline.

Hope this helps.

I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming conviction that I had nowhere to go. My own wisdom, and that of all about me, seemed insufficient for the day.
