Outlook crashing

everytime I attempt to start outlook I get the error box "Error Starting Program" with the text 'The OUTLLIB.DLL file is linked to missing export MSO9.DLL:939'
I have even tried to replace MSO9, and the same result occured. does anyone know which file(s) I have to replace? I can't reinstall MS OFFICE because the installer is corrupt also,(yes I tried reinstalling it off of the office disk) MSIEXEC just crashes. The rest of office works, except for outlook. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Michael Roark

Try checking the size of both the mso9.dll and the outllib.dll. The problem might be that one of the .dll files is corrupt or incomplete. If using outlook 2000 the correct size for the .dll are as follows:

outllib.dll = 5.03 mb
mso9.dll = 5.32 mb

if your files are different sizes then you may have a corrupt dll file. The most likely problem is a corrupt mso9.dll. Let me know if you need more help.

Hi.

There is a Technet article detailing your exact problem. The article number is: Q269055

Have a look at this, as it tells you how to fix your problem as well.

To find this article, got to www.miccrosft.com and do a search for the articlenumber.

I hope this helps.
Regards.

This is the same article the Microsoft lady gave me. good suggestions, but no 242975un.inf file to be found (on any machine in my office) and I couldn't uninstall/reinstall office, or I wouldn't have had this problem. thanks for the suggestion..

Try choice 2 .

W95 you have 3 choices . With W98 , if you have IE5.1 or higher & you
still have IE4 installed the following applies . No IE4 only 2 choices .
IE5.5 if over the top of 5.1 , offers 3 choices .

You can install IE5.1 straight over 4 . A big feature with IE5 is that
it can be repaired without uninstalling . Here is how to do it . Open
Control Panel , Add / Remove , click on Microsoft Internet Explorer ,
then click on add / remove down the bottom . This opens a window with
3 choices .

No Microsoft Internet Explorer in Control Panel !
Start>Run , key in msinfo32 and press
Enter . Click on Tools>IE Repair Tool .

Choice 1. Add , insert your IE5 install program & you can find other
items you may not have installed 1st time .

Choice 2. Repair , fixes problems that may crop up with IE5 / Outlook

Choice 3. If unfixable , removes IE5 & goes back to IE4 , now if you
want to you can reinstall IE5 or a later version or another browser
altogether .

again I repeat, I couldn't add/remove, or I would have done this already, and it went way beyond the components that tie in with IE.
Thanks for the suggestion though..

That knowledge base article is the same one the Microsoft tech sent me. I don't even have a "242975.inf" file. (not on this machine or any of the machines in my office)
My add/remove programs doesn't work for office 2000 as I had said earlier, otherwise, I would have just reinstalled it and been done with it...

you're going to love this one..
I had copied the 1033 directory directly off of the CD and onto the disk.
that allowed me to get into Outlook,
then I switched between CW mode and internet mode.
and then back, and let it install some files both ways..
but under Mail Options
Tools>Options>Mail Services>Mail Options
there wasn't any choices listed, so even though I got MAPISP32 to go up the stack and even hit my Proxy with a request. it wasn't checking anything.
so I went to this URL: (courtesy of Sophie Tan @ microsoft)
http://msdn.microsoft.com/downloads/default.asp?URL=/code/sample.asp?url
=/msdn-files/027/001/455/msdncompositedoc.xml
and got the 1.44MB new installer program.
ran it.
reboot.
uninstall/repair options all came back. guess this was just a weird one...
