Outlook DELETE box acting strange

By lmayeda ·
I have a 2000 user who has extensive email folders. A couple of days ago, she said that she emptied the DELETE folder and this morning, a lot of the deleted messages were back in the DELETE folder. Also this morning she had one of those "Windows has performed an error ... do you wish to send it to Microsoft?" type errors.

Another quirk. She is finding current email messages from known contacts going directly to the DELETE box. Her email "rule" is not responsible for this behavior. Of the two contacts whose messages went directly to the DELETE box unread, one was an ongoing email "conversation". She had reported this problem in the past. I have asked her to get that contact to re-send his last message and also to send a new one to see if the anomaly can be reproduced. Has anyone had a similar issue?

If the user is set for all incoming email to go to her inbox on exchange, then delete the exchange profile and re-add it. This might help.

User is not using Exchange Server. Mail goes straight to her Inbox. Thanks

wow. what about trying her on a new outlook profile? i would try to eliminate corruption of either the profile or the mail folders. if you can find the inbox repair tool, try that. might be on cd. i have lost track over what versions allow what.
but new profile covers all bases as you will have to export mail and addresses from 'old' profile into new profile and that ususally acts as poor mans repair tool for corruption. if it works, it was probably the mail folder db. there might be less sledgehamemr ways of approaching this like deleteing the index file for the mail folder db to force recreation but i am not intimate enuf with outlook to finesse it...

Sounds like a lot of work (she has a TON of email folders) but so far the only one that might solve the problem "if" the problem is a corruption issue. Thanks

By Chance, are you running Outlook 2003?

Using Outlook 2002. Is there an issue with 2003?

I installed outlook 2003 and it has done alot of funny stuff. It is always asking to send an error report to microsoft. It crashes at least twice a day.

My user reported that she had "a" crash that day. She is using Outlook 2002. Crashes don't seem to be the norm. Thanks for the input.
