Outlook Express 5 will not remember pass

By finnie ·
We have two computers in our office, both running under Windows98 with Outlook 5. One system will not remember any passwords after rebooting, and the other periodically loses them. I have clicked the "Remeber Password" button and have NOT changed any SMTP or POP3 settings (which have "lost" passwords before). I have even tried snooping through the Registry, but it's mostly just guesswork for me, and I didn't see any keys that said " KeepPasswordInOutlookExpress = 0" or anything useful like that.

This is a known issue with Outlook
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ Policies\Network

5. If caching is disabled, you will see an entry in the Name list of "DisablePwdCaching" with a value of 1. Right-click the entry, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu.

Hope this does it

Instead of guessing around in the Registry and maybe causing some other problems with inexperience with the registry, uninstall Outlook Express through the Add/Remove programs and reinstall the software,to correct all system files.Learning to hack thru the registry is an experience and you would want some knowledge of it to modify it ,read on it and try your hand.good luck

You have probably already tried this but I would delete all the *.PWL files on the computer and make sure there are no windows users setup (under Users in the Control Panel)! If you have a corrupt PWL file on your computer it might just be losing the passwords. Of course if you have a lot of passwords saved in there that work then you might not want to do this!!
