Outlook Express

I have a customer who asked to have XP pro installed and get rid of Win98. So I FDisk the dive and changed the file system to NTFS, and reinstalled his software along with a new copy of XP pro. The problem he was having in Outlook Express was with Word being grayed out. He couldn’t open any WORD attachments yet using his web-mail he could open it. By this time he had had enough and didn’t want me to look at the problem just ?wipe it? he said. Well this didn’t work, after freshly installing everything he still had the same problem. With a fresh install of Outlook Express what could it be?
