I there a difference between addresses and Contacts?

My screen show ‘no contacts’ yet my address button has many. Another identity has a different list in contacts from addresses.

If you’re connected to an Exchange server, your Contacts folder is your address book. This is where you keep names, addresses and email addresses of people. You access this by clicking on the Contacts icon. You also may have a Global Address List (GAL). This address list usually contains everyone in your company, and is maintained by your system administrator. You can access this by clicking on the address book icon or by clicking on Tools, Address book. You can also access your Contacts from this address book by clicking the down arrow next in the ‘Show Names from the’ box.

The answer does not apply since this is on a home PC – there is no exchange server. In some of my Outlook express identities there are contacts and there are names in the address book. In others there are no contacts – but names in the address book. It was all OK with ‘outlook express’ until I used ‘outlook’ in my XO user. This seems to have affected ‘express’ in some undocumented way.

If you go to the Microsoft web site, you will be told that Outlook Express has a maximum of 1000 items in the address book. You will be told to delete some items. I tried this and it did not solve the problem for me.
Microsoft will advise you not to use Outlook Express, but Outlook. You might also consider trying non-Microsoft software.
