Outlook Express Downloaded My Inbox

By gacrosswell2 ·
My work PC crashed yesterday, so while I waited for IT to repair it, I figured I'd use my laptop. Well I fired up Outlook Express, pointed it to the Exchange server, and it downloaded all of my inbox. That was OK until I realized that it had removed the mail from the server after downloading. I need to put the messages back. Is there any way to do this?

Yes. IMAP

Your exchange server probably supports IMAP.
If so, go to OE, and delete the POP account. Add it back as an IMAP account. Then drag the messages from the "local folders" to the imap'ed inbox.

There are other alternatives like exporting your messages, and importing into Outlook, but those can get messy.

Hope this helps.

With Help From IT

If I am thinking this through correctly, you can restore your Exchange Inbox with some assistance from your IT department or Exchange Administrator.

First, change your OE settings to leave messages on the server. At least for your Exchange Account.

Next, use the Export Wizard and Export your Inbox to an Outlook PST file.
Give the file to the Exchange Administrator and I believe they can restore your Inbox.

Thanks for the help

I tried the IMAP suggestion first as it didn't require getting IT involved. Worked like a champ. All of my mail is back in my inbox, safe and sound.

Thanks again!
