Outlook Express vs Netscape Messenger

By kadir ·
Hi,
There is a conception that Microsoft Outlook Express program is more
susceptible to viruses than Netscape's Messenger .
Is it true?.

Is there a statistic that:
-how many users worldwide use outlook express and how many users use Netscape messanger?.
-whats the percentage of e-mail viruses specifically written for outlook
express?

Which one do you recommend to a user who updates virus DAT files regularly
as far as viruses are concerned?.

TIA,,

I've never seen a stastistical study comparing the security of the 2 packages.

There are a few facts to keep in mind however,
1. The hackers have a grudge against Microsoft. As such they tend to target MS products.

2. There are more MS users than Netscape users. Therefore, an attack against MS will cause more havic than an attack against Netscape.

3. All MS applications become "one" with the OS. Therefore, when you get inside one MS ap, you get access to the whole OS.

I have been using OE for several years, and have had only one e-mail virus get through. This was partially my fault, as I had not checked the AV software settings after an upgrade.
