Outlook - Forward with attachments

By cornbread ·
When an e-mail is forwarded with an attachment, the attachment shows up as a win.dat file or is dropped. If I save the attachment such as pdf or .rm to another file and then attach it to a new e-mail, it goes through fine.

Outlook - Forward with attachments

by jmar In reply to Outlook - Forward with at ...

Are you using Outlook 2000 with Office 97?

Is Outlook set to use Word 97 as the default email editor?

Is Outlook set to send out emails with Rich Text?

If all the above are true then attachments will be dropped from emails that are forwarded. This is a problem with using Outlook 2000 and Office 97. We've had the same problem here with our users. It's also a problem with the Rich Text format. Not all email recipients can receive Rich Text.

There are 2 ways to send the attachment. One is the way you've been doing it. The other way is to upgrade to Office 2000.

See the following Microsoft Knowledgebase articles for more info:
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q235/8/70.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/q230/7/10.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q197/0/66.asp
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q241/5/38.ASP

The last 2 articles describes the problems with the Rich Text format and attachments showing up as win.dat files.

Hope this helps!
Jeff
