Outlook in Office XP Locks up

I have tried everything to stop lock up “program not responding”. Have had to go to nother mail client. Not satisfactory. When I “deinstall” office XP, restart and reinstall, Outlook “finds” all the old email accounts & etc. and still locks up. How do I do a TOTAL deinstall of office XP so i can get a “Clean” install of office (and Outlook2002)and maybe the lock up problem will go by the way. I can not find the root of the problem so I give up, but Office XP won’t even let me do that. Any ideas appreciated mucho!
