I have a user with an HP 4010 notebook. It is running XP with SP2 and Outlook 2003. When she is using word or excel and clicks ,file, send to, mail reciepent(as attachment) it opens a new email in Outlook with the doc as an attachment. She will then
type a message to go along with the attachment. When she sends the message the text of the email is always missing, only the attachment is sent, and when she opens the email from her sent items folder the text is missing.Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i believe i have read about this bug in outlook at support.microsoft.com
are they xp and office sp’s and patches on there?
it may have something to do with the format of the Messages. wonder if you can try to affect this by changing that.

The attachments are being sent correctly, the reciepent can open them and read them. The people receiving the emails are using outlook, some are using OE. Fully patched.

Make sure that your Outlook Express is set up to allow attachments in.You’ll find this in the Security area. Go into the READ area ad make sure that your Read all in plain text is NOT checked on.
Then go to the Security, and make sure it is set to allow attachment in. Also make sure that your INTERNET ZONE, is checked on not the restricted.
I would also go to the Outlook Express and in top menu there is an area called,VIEW. Check this out and make sure it’s set to “View All Messages”.
      Hope this helps
      Regards

as Sgt said, it was a known problem with the very first release of offie 2003 (office xp).

I experienced it on a client machine, patched and it was fixed, however my problem included corrupt attachments.

I would try searching for the patch again, and re-downloading, installing it.

If this doesn’t fix your problem, you’re probably best to backup all the emails, use the builtin archive to file tool and contacts list (see outlooks very comprehensive help for creating reinstanciatable [is that a word] files for folders/messages/contacts and appointments)

Remove Outlook 2003, reinstall outlook. add the patch before running.

Reload the archived backups, and try again.

      Hope you get it fixed.
