Outlook multiple send/receive

By colin.mac ·
My problem is in Outlook 2002, normally if i send a small message it sends without any issues, but if i send an e-mail with a large attachmet(2 MB or larger) Outlook continually sends and receives until i've got a list of up to 12 send and receive tasks in the details box. if i cancel the extra tasks and go back to the original message task it says that 100% is complete but the message doesn't budge out of the outbox no matter how long i wait. I've gone into the send/receive settings to make sure I wasn't set up to automatically send/receive every minute or so and it wasn't. If anyone has come across this in the past or knows the cure it'd be greatly appreciated. My system is Win2k SP3 and Office XP PRO.

Regards

Outlook multiple send/receive

This may not actually be anything to do with outlook as such.
The problem may be that your Internet Service Provider (ISP) does not allow attachments of that size and the system is simply timing out.
Most ISP's like Freeserve etc only allocate around 2MB of space for an entire mail box.
Check with the ISP you are sending the mail from/to allows such big attachments.

Send an e-mail with a 250k atachment, then one with 500k,,then 1MB etc and see when the problem arises.

If you can send small attachments and e-mails then i presume it is timing out because the attachment is too big
Hope this helps

Yep, the problem is the size issue (maybe), otherwise, if the size is the issue, you could just upload the file to some free web servers and send the url in the email, or otherwise you could compress and break down the attachment smaller files, like2mb file into 4 500KB files, using compressio programs like WinZip etc...
Cheers

Check the SMTP protocol limitation setting in your mail server.
It must be bigger (around 1/3 times) than the attachment size.

Let's say the SMTP protocol setting is 2.5MB, the attachment size only can passed is around 1.5MB or 1.7MB

Hope this help
