Outlook offsite with Exchange

Hello,

I am new to exchange and server 2003 and trying to understand how outlook comunicates with exchange. In particular I am trying to establish what I need to allow outlook on an offsite computer to communicate with exchange.

A nudge in the right direction would be greatly appreciated
