Outlook on VPN

OS = XP
I log on to a VPN through the internet which works OK, however upon opening Outlook and typing in user, domain and password I recieve an error ” log on cridentials incorrect “. I have verified these and host name with sys. admin. I believe the problem is an Outlook setup issue but cannot find. I have this setup on a Win9x hard drive which works.
