Outlook Personal folder file recovery

By dschmidtqcpete ·
I recently changed a PC running Windows XP Pro from a Domain to a Workgroup. This forced the users profile to be rebuilt and though the Outlook PST "Personal folder file" still exists on the C drive under the old profile, I cannot open it or move it with any of the Microsft tools available. The user had a lot of data in Outlook calendar that he can't get to. Any way to recover this data? everything else was no problem.

We just moved all of our computers over from one domain to another and had this same problem. We had to recreate their outlook profile. Now, we use MS Mail (yes, very old) so we just choose to add Personal Folder and browsed to the location of the PST. Below is exactly how we did this.

1. Login to the computer as Administrator/an account with administrator rights on the computer.
2. Browse the location of the pst in the old profile and copy it and paste it into a new folder on the C drive (we named ours PST).
3. Now Logoff and Login as the user.
4. Now open outlook. Go to Tools --> Options --> Click on Mail Setup Tab --> Click Email Accounts 5. Choose to add the Personal Folder and browse to the new location of the pst.
6. Follow the steps and then close and reopen Outlook.

It should all be there now. If you run into any problems respond to the post and I will see what else I can do to help you.

Hope this helps!
