One of my co-workers, running Vista and Outlook 2007, has episodes where Outlook constantly prompts for his password to the mail server, even though his email account has been setup and the checkbox to "remember password" is checked. Other times, it might run correctly for days, then re-occur for no obvious reason. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

It's a desktop work station in a workgroup. One of several identical machines. One of the others also displays this behavior, but not nearly as frequently as this one.
I see this frequently with laptop users who rarely connect directly to the domain.
Our VPN system doesn't pass the periodic "domain password about to expire" warnings. The user's domain password expires, but he doesn't know it. He can still log on his laptop with the locally cached credentials, but that password is rejected by the Exchange server since it has expired on the domain. In our case, connecting the system via a non-VPN connection (ie, wired) solves the problem.
Have the user change his p/w and see if that makes the problem go away.
Yes - when it misbehaves like this, entering the password manually does work for that single instance only. As soon as it cycles through to the next check for new mail, the prompt reappears and the password must be re-entered.
Your link seems to have worked. The only point it neglects to mention, is that after making the change (deleting the "protect" folder), you not only have to restart Outlook, you also have to reboot the PC. But it appears to be working correctly now. Thank you for your help!
