Outlook Re-Bolding Read Messages

By whyjillwhy ·
This has happened to a couple of users. They will read messages in a public folder. A day or two later, the same messages they already read will show up bolded, as if they were unread messages. Do you have any idea why this happens or how to stopit?

Outlook Re-Bolding Read Messages

Interesting question. Check to see their settings for Internet Explorer--are their History files set to delete less than the other users that don't have this problem? If not, I would look for a setting in Outlook for newsgroups, etc. where Keep as new or something similar is specified.

That doesn't apply in this case. When the messages are read, they show up as read for a few days. Then the same messages suddenly start showing up as unread again. Also, these are just regular Outlook folders.

In Outlook you can select all or a group of messages, and then right click on them and "Mark as unread" -- or "mark as read" if they are unread.

I've never heard of this happening automatically. Are you sure one of your users are not resettingthe attributes on these?

Which version of Outlook is being used? What has changed on your network? Have you installing any kind of filtering software or third-party utilities to Exchange?

The users are definitely not manually changing the messages' status. We are in Outlook 2000 Corporate Workgroup. We have been using MailMarshal, but the messages being affected are only on an internal bulletin board, so the SPAM software shouldn'taffect it. Nothing else has changed. This has been happening sporadically since before MailMarshal was turned on, though. Thanks anyway.
