Outlook Recurring meetings issue

By IT_Girl_47 ·
I have one client running Windows Vista Business using Office 2007 SP2. Each monday morning, all of this recurring meetings reschedule themselves for midnight. I have created a new outlook profile for this user, applied an office patch. Aside from uninstalling office completely I do not know what else do to. After the meetings reschedule themselve, the user will move the times to the correct time and outlook of course sends out the meeting information. Does anyone have a fix for this?

Is the client using a Dell laptop?

by jfuller05 In reply to Outlook Recurring meeting ...

This "bug" affects only Dell laptops with Media Direct. This is really not an Outlook bug - it's caused by an add-in Dell ships with their laptops that support Media Direct.

Dell laptops include an application called Media Direct and this application installs an Outlook add-in called "Outlook Setup Addin" (outlookaddin.dll) which causes problems for some users. This add-in supports the Instant Office feature of Media Direct. Uninstall it from Control panel, Add and Remove Programs to prevent the problem with future meeting requests. You can also disable it in Tools, Options, Other, Add-ins (Outlook 2003) or Tools, Trust Center, Add-ins (Outlook 2007).

Along with causing meeting requests to become recurring, it doesn't work well with Outlook 2007 and is responsible for at least some of the complaints about Outlook 2007's slowness and CPU resources spiking.

This add-in is responsible for creating Calendar folders in My Documents when you work with attachments.

Did not work

by IT_Girl_47 In reply to Is the client using a Del ...

Yes the client is using a Dell laptop. I had disabled this addin but 2 weeks later, the meetings rescheduled themselves. The PC also does not have media direct installed. Should I uninstall and reinstall the whole office suite?

Re: re-install

Before removing and reinstalling Office I would (if you haven't already) try the Office Diagnostics from the Tools menu within Outlook. You also said that the addin was disabled and the issue didn't occur for 1 week but began again the second week. Did the addin get re-enabled by chance? Lastly, does the issue only occur for that user or on that computer? You may want to try just removing/deleting the Outlook profile and creating a new one.

Update

by IT_Girl_47 In reply to Re: re-install

The add-in has not become enabled again! I did remove the outlook profile and created a new one and the issue happened again. It only happens Sunday night into Monday morning so I don't know what's going on. I will try a un-install re-install to see if that does anything.
