Outlook Remote Mail Transport....

By Aspasa ·
Hi,

Using Outlook 2k to connect to exchange 5.5 in the office and then synchronize - offline file - before travel to far away lands.

When in the far away land - AND still in outlook 2k, do I need an email service to pick up my exchange 5.5 mail via pop3 or can i just use remote transport?

Does exchange remote work well?

thank you...

You have a couple of options.

If you want to use Exchange to pick up the mail you must have a network connection to the rest of the network, so RAS...

Exchange requires network authentication, but this can be done either at logon or on request. Alter tool | services | Microsoft Exchange Server | Advanced, and change NT Password Authentication to None.

Otherwise if you want to pick up mail you can use exchange as a pop3 server. Provided that this is enabled, and the server has a valid external address.

Sorry... I didn't mention this, but you have to have RAS access to the network with the Exchange server on.... this will use the Remote Transport Protocol.

So it depends very much on the connection speeds at both ends.

Hi,

So why use Remote Transport if you're connected through RAS? Surely that is just the same as being connected to your Exchange Server?

Or am I missing something!

thank you...

Hi,

So what's the difference between using Remote Transport and just using Exchange Services? If you have a RAS connection then surely you are just connected as per usual to the Exchange server?
