Outlook rules only work on one message

By Arnold Dennison ·
When created w/Organize dialogue, rules to move Inbox messages to .pst folders only work on the specific msg selected & ignore others with same From "display" identifier. Have looked at properties of same From ids and each has different front end (long strings of dot separated numbers)in E-mail addr, prior to "@". When created w/Wizard using From "display" id, rule doesn't work on any msgs in group. Have MS Outlook 2K Corp/Wrkgrp SR-1 v9.0.0.5414 on MS Win2K Pro SP-3 v.5.0.2195. What am I doing wrong?

Outlook seems to store more than just the display address in the rules when using the "From" options, but doesn't display them hence the confusion.

To creat a rule for the sort of variable address sent by ezines, go into the wizard, and create a rule using "With specific words in the sender's address". Type a word (e.g. techrepublic) that always appears in the address (NOT display) portion of the address. Domain names are usually good, or the ezine name if not. Select your action, and also select "Stop processing" so that further rules are not carried out (saves time and avoids duplication of copied messages).

The rule for words in the body is also useful for categorising some things. I've got all the usual spam things in a rule to move to a junk folder e.g. viagra, money, etc., etc.

HTH,
Steve.
