Outlook settings

By mainard1 ·
We are running pure w2k when a user logs in to a new computer we have to set the outlook settings to find the exchange server. This happens on every single user. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Outlook settings

If you are using Outlook as your email client, and you are accessing an Exchange server to get email, then the answer is no.

Email profiles (normally) exist under a user's Windows profile on each machine. You could enable roaming profiles (whichsaves a user's Windows profile to the server), but I would recommend against this if your users tend to save all their files to their desktop or My Documents folders, or if your users tend to have large mailboxes. Since all three of these are part of a user's "profile", all these items would have to be downloaded every time a user logs on (which can cause the log-on process to drag on forever).

Without roaming profiles, you must configure the email profile of each user in order to get email. If you don't configure it, Outlook doesn't know where to look to get email.

Since each user (usually) has their own mailbox, then you must configure Outlook for each user.

Hope this helps.
