Outlook Shuts down when monitor wakes

By fadbel ·
I have an intermittent problem when my monitor wakes after being off. If the last task I accessed before my monitor goes to it's scheduled shutdown (45 minutes), the task shuts down. In the case of Outlook 2003, it presents it's normal shutdown message about deleting files in the Deleted folder. If the last task was Internet Explorer (updated thru XP Pro SP2), that task will close. I can't find anything related on Technet or the MS Knowledge Base.

That sounds like an issue with either Standby or Hibernation. There are a lot of strange things with those two happening. Check your power settings by right-clicking on the desktop and go to Properties, then the Screensaver tab and select the Power button. Check the Power Schemes and Hibernate tabs and make sure they are disabled. Not sure what else it would be, so I hope that helps!

All of your comments have been checked. I found that if I turned off ANY screen saving, the problem does not recur. So, it appears to be related to the screen-saver routine (any of them) as I have no problems with restoring my monitor after it's gone "to sleep".
