Outlook slow response.

I have clients currently using Outlook2000 with Exchange Server5.5, over the past weeks I have seen a number of machines have a problem of slow response, when they start outlook it takes a while to load and will then pop-up with the message unable to locate server with the "retry" and "work offline" option. If you click retry over 4-6mins you will eventually get into your mailbox. I have tested the same acct on other machines and it works fine. So its something to do with the Windows/Outlook. Ihave tried reloading the mapi files but this hasn't helped.

There are a number of causes to this problem but the most predominent one according to Microsoft is that TCP/IP is not the preferred protocol - so I would look at that first and make sure the machine that runs slow is configured for the network exactly as the machine that runs faster.

I have checked that and all is fine. The problem with these machines is that initially they were working fine. But suddenly they take a long time to login to Exchange/Outlook.

If you are using Personal Folders on the clients local computers, then I recommend that you make sure that they know how to compact their Personal Folders after deleting a lot of e-mail.

You might also run a SCANPST.EXE over their inbox to makesure that any inconsistencies or errors are repaired.
