Outlook Today hanging

By Shanghai Sam ·

We have a client whose Outlook 2000 is configured for an Exchange Mailbox. For some reason the Outlook Today hangs when clicking it on the folder list. We have tried creating a new Outlook Profile for his mailbox to no avail. Everytime we click on Outlook Today we get an hourglass, and have to hit "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" and end the task. The user has a Windows 2000 Professional workstation with 733MHz and adequate drive space.

I have also tried creating a profile on another machine (where the default user's Outlook Today works) for this user's mailbox and received the same result. However, if I create a new Outlook profile on the original workstation, with no Exchange Server mailbox I can click on Outlook Today.

What are some possible suggestions to correct this? Could the user's mailbox be corrupt? If so, is there a tool to fix this? Thanks for any assistance.

Outlook Today hanging

In the folder properties of Outlook Today, uncheck the box for "show home page by default". Then click into Outlook today and see if there are any items or files in there. If so, remove them.
Of course, it will not display the Outlook Today web-page style until you re-check that box.

Since Outlook Today is a web page, any activex controls or security permissions in Internet Explorer may apply to it. Check the security in IE to see whether activex is allowed to run.

If that does not help any, it's possible your OUTLWVW.dll file is corrupt. This is the DLL responsible for building your Outlook Today web page (Outlook Web View). Use the procedure here;EN-US;q284926 to replace it.
