Outlook 'username' replaced?

By mannitol ·
In the last 24h Outlook 2007 has created a rogue username which is now used to send/receive emails. Essentially my name has been replaced by the company name but with limited underlying detail. It can be added as a contact.

As far as I can see the general email settings remain correct ie 'account settings' retain the correct 'username' although it is being overridden.

Any insight or suggestions gratefully received.

Block it immediately

My first off-the-cuff thought would be malware that found an account with administrator privilege, and created the rogue for use by a bot-net.

Full scan for malware and viruses, and block the account. Make sure network administrators use admin accounts only for administration, and not for general use. Change passwords on all accounts with administrator access after the virus scan completes and removes anything. (i.e. do all of the standard security response to a breach.)
