outlook, vpn, wifi and hotsport

By addison99 ·
I have a user that travels about the UK with a laptop

they connect to our server running exchange 2003, all works ok in the office

They use a 3G dongle and this connects ok using VPN to the exchange server with outlook 2003

if they use a wifi hotspot it doesnt work or if they use it on a different wifi router

at their home their router was setup with the same IP scope at the server uses 192.168.16.x

why cant i connect with a router with an IP addrss off etc

Microsoft VPN does not work very well with NAT

Unless the router has an IPSEC-passthru capability, there was a change with XP SP2 that made it impossible to do VPN over NAT.

Assuming microsoft VPN is the problem, then most likely yes

At a hotspot you would be assigned a LAN address and the router of the site would be NATting your address.

Again, assuming that the XP SP2 VPN issue is the problem....

With a 3G card you would be getting a non-NAT address, I would assume.
