Outlook wants to save files first

I receive attachments on a daily basis. Recently, I got a new laptop with Windows Vista and put Office 2003 on it. When I try to open an attachment, it wants to save it. I don't have a problem opening the attachment if I save it first and then open it like any other document on my hard drive. I do not have Google Desktop installed and never have. I say this because I have read other threads that state that Google Desktop has caused this problem before.

Outlook offers the option to Save or Open file attachments when you double click on an attachment to open it, along with an option to Always ask before opening the attachment type. If you remove the check from the always ask box, attachments are always opened.
To change this setting back to always ask, open Windows Explorer's Tools, Folder Options menu. Look on the File Types tab for the attachment type, and select it then the Advanced button and add a check to the Confirm after Open option.
