Outlook Web Access

Hi,
I am thinking of implementin Outlook web access in our small nt network that includes a pdc,bdc exchange and RAS. I know I have to build an IIS box. For the people who deployed OWA before, what would be your suggestion to start this process. thank you

Outlook Web Access

Depending on the load of the each individual servers, I would be wise to put it on the RAS server. Basically putting IIS and OWA on the RAS box.

Exchange by itself will be pretty busy. PDC and BDC will also be busy autheticating users. So RAS server would be a good choice. Well unless you're in ISP biz ;-)

One of my clients, have about 150 users (small by most org standard) have been setup that way.

Basically, OWA installation is straight forward. Go to RAS server, install option pack, then sp6a, then reboot.

Then pop in Exchange CD, run setup, select only OWA. Then sp6a. And it should be done. It is quite straight forward. By default it will be installed under http://default_web_site/exchange. If you have serveral virtual sites, you can move OWA to them as well. You can also change the exchange so it can be access http://site/email (or what ever you want).

With this config, you will need to authenticate using basic authentication (plain text username and password are sent). Configure it to use SSL. Then it would be secure. It is actually pretty nice. If you have some developers helping, you can change some cosmetic and make it look more exciting! Have fun.
