not an outlook jockey and don't know if this is the easiest way but have you considered exporting the contacts. i believe ignoring duplicates is an export option. you'd have to reimport them into a new contact list then nuke the old one. not for faint of heart. you sure there is not corruption causing this?

Good idea. Made me think of just a little different approach. Exported and used Excel to delete duplicates. worked fine. Thanks for the direction.

Great idea that was Sgt_shultz. If you export the contacts to a
pst and then delete all entries in outlook. Then imports the pst
and overwrite duplicates it just might work!

The other option is manually selecting more than one. It only
works in the card type view, but select one and then ctrl-select
the rest and delete multiple at once.

I want to know if the sgt's idea works though.

Good Luck,

razz

Agree wholeheartedly. Found user was syncing to a home PC, a laptop and office workstation.

Dealing with duplicates is not an option with exporting your contacts, only while importing. You could try exporting the entire list and then reimporting and disallowing duplicates. The bigger questions is why are there so many duplicates to begin with? Is the user syncing a handheld and duplicaing the contacts each time? Check out this ms article to clean up the duplicates and prevent furture duplicates:

Cheers.
