Outlook98 - ?'s regarding a 2nd mailbox

By brent.carlson ·
I created a mailbox for generic use and gave five users permissions to it. These five users also have their own mailbox. They would like to be able to send e-mail showing that it came from the generic mailbox in the From: field. My problem is, each time we are getting the message, "You do not have permission to send on behalf of the specified user". Any insight to this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I thinkyou need to go into Tools -> Options in the generic mailbox and give them explicit delegate authority to send on behalf of.

I'm not sure exactly where in 98, in 97 there is a "Delegates" tab.

Thanks asyscokid for your advice. I failed to mention that we have already tried 'delegates'. By doing that, you can send on behalf of another user but it still shows the original users account name.

that's right. You must log on as the "common mailbox" (outlook client) and go to tools, options, and choose the delegates tab. then add the five users, and choose the appropriate permissions for the inbox.

you may also need to check the permissions tab on the mailbox (exchange server), add those five users, then choose Send As as their permission. But set the delegate permissions first.

I appreciate the input I received but the suggestions (answers) given to me were ones we already had tried without success.

Thank you to asyscokid and Goon for replying to my question. We finally figured it out this morning. We created a Group in User Manager and put the 5 users in that group. Then, we made that group the primary NT account to that generic mailbox. Within the mailbox itself, we gave all five users owner permissions. It is now operating just as we wanted it too.
