Overlaying pictures on Icons

By davidr ·
We have a user who has had his icons overlayed with ms-dos icons. When you do a screen refresh his real icons show for a second and then the ms-dos icons reappear. Does anyone know how this was done and how to undo it?

Do a search for ShellIconCache - should be in the c:\winnt folder.

Close all programs / files, then delete this file. Reboot your pc. should be good to go. If not, delete this file one more time and reboot.

Basically this file controls the Icon pictures and stores them in this cache file for use. It will get corrupt once in a blue moon. After deleting it and rebooting, windows will recreate this file from scratch upon the next boot restoring your icons.

I hope this helps.
