Overnight Re-configuration

By desk23 ·
My computer settings go from 640 x 480 to it's regular settings of 800 x 600. My email
accounts are also changed every morning.
Any ideas why. Running Win98se.

What kind of video adapter are you running? You might want to check out your advanced display settings. Also, are you sure that you are actually applying your settings after you change them? Hope this helps, Ryan.

Assuming no one has access to your computer at night a old poorly written program may be changing the settings. I know we use some old DOS based educational software the runs full screen the changes the settings on exit. Don't know if that helps but it is a thought.

some bios will allow you to manage monitor refresh rates, you should first set it to allow for adaptor default. if this is already the case, then set it to 72HZ, known refresh rate for 800x600 non interlaced.

As far as your mail accounts go, you did not specify your mail client, I will assume you are using some flavor of outlook, Outlook allows you to specify the primary or default mail account, loaded when outlook starts. with all the flavors out there, i cannot tell you exactly how to makethe changes, but you must examine outlooks properties, and this will allow you to define the primary mail account...

Have already tried the bios rate and tried the default settings, tried new drivers, just seems to slow the computer and it sounds like it is constantly working?

They are defined in settings but change on there own while the computer is shut down overnight.

What I can tell you about your display settings changing is that the probability the wrong video drivers are installed is high.

Try getting the very latest from the card's vendor and give it another whirl.

Good luck.
