Owner missing from folder

By gralfus ·
I have a recurring issue with a particular user. When she creates a sub-folder on a network share, it somehow creates it without an owner and doesn't inherit any permissions from the parent folder. I can go in and set the owner to the network admins and then force inheritance, but this is getting old. Any idea why this is happening?

When I look at the folder prior to fixing it, it only has the General and Security tab, not the Sharing or Customize tabs. After I give it an owner and inherit permissions, all the tabs show.

I would check the her permissions on the parent folder. Is the propagation of inheritable permissions enabled? Have you tried creating a folder as another user in the same groups? Compare her setup to someone who should have identical rights. You may find you've overlooked something. If not, consider recreating the user account, a pain but not as bad as resetting permissions everytime she creates a folder.

Let us know how it goes.

The problem hasn't re-appeared, so I'm not sure what happened (which may be worse than knowing). Anyway, your approach was correct so I'm giving you the points.

User is still on vacation, waiting for her to get back so I can continue experimenting.
