“Owner” of Windows XP-SP2 machine changed via IE?

by answerman . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

A customer of mine was hacked when visiting a legitimate website. The currently up to date PC-Cillin (Trend Micro) with all the bells and whistles turned on, had settings changed by this. The email in-coming and outgoing filters were shut off, as was the web mail filter. It identified the spyware, but it won’t delete it.

This thing came in and replaced my admin with their name called “OWNER”…. and no amount of trying will get it out of there. It’s back with every reboot, which means it’s in the registry.

The “Owners” name starts with “YOUR-“… and then a series of numbers and letters.. So I’m assuming that wherever this originated, they have a script that scans for “owners” that start with the letters “YOUR-“.. and then they can take control?

Could one of you registry God’s please assist me in getting back control of this computer?

Thanks in advance
