P2P Software connection problems -router

By Zero101 ·
I have Tiscali ADSL 2mpbs internet connection. Everything used to work fine until I installed my Belkin ADSl modem router - 4 port + wireless. Since then I have not been able to use my p2p software properly, and sometimes online games do not work. I have tried opening up a UDP/TDP port, but this has not worked. Maybe this was dont incorrectly - what else can I do?

usually the P2P and game software web site has a FAQ section which deals with these issues. Mostly its because the P2P and the games requires more than 1 port to operate corectly. Therefore you have to specify a range of ports in the router that the program will use. Game documentation usually has what range of ports need to be open to allow online play. P2P you will probably have to check their site for which ports you will need open for their software to work.

well just about all consumer level routers I know of allows you to specify a range of addresses. There should be 2 boxes where you specify a port from left to right left box is from port whatever, right box to port whatever. If you don't have that, the mfg might have a firmware update that will provided that capability. If not, get a different router because I know Netgear, Linksys, D-Link, Airlink etc all have the capability to specify a range of port for TCP and UDP.

Thanks for your help. However on my router settings I don't think it allows me to specify a range of ports - only one port at a time.
