hello i need help understanding my dsl modem…i have a westell 6040 dsl modem hooked up to a generic ethernet card that was supplied by my dsl provider pacific bell here in san francisco, CA. My problem is…if i have to power cycle my modem when,once i turn the modem on…a LED indicates that the link from modem to ethernet card is okay but the modem wont connect to pacbell’s server. the modem also passes the start-up diagnostics, but still can’t connect. the weird thing about all this is that if i pick up the phone and dial out while i’m connecting the modem’ll connect to the server at the same time but once i hang up the phone the modem disconnects from their server.
