    Packet Filters vs Protocol Rules

    Locked

    by hannahlovesbananas ·

I dont seem to understand the difference between packet filters and protocol rules in Microsoft ISA server…it seems to me that they do much of the same thing. I’m new to this, and wondering if one was better than the other when opening and blocking certain ports for my clients.

    Thanks 🙂

Hi,I think u can get a lotof info at http://www.isaserver.org.
the official documentation says “A Packet filter does blocking packets/data from either coming or going through or to isa server by either tcp, udp or icmp.”
A Protocol Rule applies whn you advertise services trough ISA such as hosting FTP in ur lan and allowing incoming requests through ISA..
you can get more info at microsoft technet documentation.
