Page Fault on Games

By gemailhiot ·
System running Windows 98, 166MHz, 96MB RAM, 10GB hard drive with approx 5GB free space.
Whenever I start a game like Solitaire, Freecell, Taipei, I get the following:

Explorer has caused an invalid page fault in module KRNL386.EXE at 0002:00007a1c.

the address is always the same. the error usually appears at the same time the game setup appears.

The game will play, but most of the icons disappear from SYSTRAY.

I have replaced both EXPLORER & KRNL386.EXE, but the problem persists.

Video card was changed from ATI RAGEII 4MB to S3 Virge DX card with 8MB memory - no change.

Games like Hover and Fury3 are not affected, neither is the Spider Solitaire supplied with Windows ME.

Any suggestion?

thanks for your helpgilles mailhiot

Have you tried to uninstall the games and reinstall them? You can do this by going to:

start->settings->control panel->add/remove programs and then clicking on the windows setup button to the left. Remove the games by finding it in the list and check the box. Then reinstall them off of the Win98 CD. This should work, if more intense games are playing and solitare is not then this will probaly fix it.

Hope this helps...

If you use mcafee virusscan 6 but there is an update on the website that relates to this issue. Here is the URL;

http://www.mcafeeretail.com/naicommon/download/patches.asp

Here is the file you'll need. "S060230.exe". The problems resolved are on the right.
