Page File / Virtual memory

By rcoegbr ·
When logging into my win2000 laptop i get a message saying Page File does not exist or too small.

On trying to increase size to recommended and higher it appears to take effect then when logging back in goes back to 20M.

I have done this with Admin (local) and my user (local and domain) all of which have full rights to the laptop.

Any ideas appart from the obvious ones I have already tried ?

The default or recommended paging file size for Windows 2000 Professional is equal to 1.5 times the total amount of RAM.

How much RAM is in the laptop? 1.5 times the RAM is the MS rule. How much free disk space do you have on the drive?

If your local admin is not also a domain admin, you can only change setting for the current session. When you log in to the domain or using cached credentials on the local machine you will not be able to effect settings reserved for the administrator.

Next time you are on the network, have a domain admin make the changes to your machine and that should save them for you.
