pagefile

In Win NT & Win 2000 server , if i delete the pagefile.sys & restart the server , will it create the pagefile.sys again ?

note that the pagefile may not be deleted while it is active.

I don't THINK you can delete it via safe mode but I am not too sure, you may want to see if it is active in SAFE MODE.

I do it through the Newtare Console but there is a utility for this. As for Windows I just don't know, sorry that's all the help I can offer.:-(

An expansion on Oz's answer:

While it will recreate a swapfile upon reboot, it will only create a very minimal one (usually 2MB - the minimum size for a swapfile) (NOTE: this will happen even if you configure Windows to use a swapfile size of 0MB). You will still need to reconfigure the swapfile to the optimal size for your system.

on some of my win2k Servers am seeing there is no pagefile.sys present even after setting the file size.

It should note recreate the pagefile.sys, but you have to remember it is part of the win NT server file. So, it cannot do nothing to server anyway.
Becareful before deleting make sure the problem is pagefile.sys and there is no other problem attched to it.

Should i go to safe mode to delete pagefile.sys ??
