Back on 2-5-02 I recieved a Win2K Tip from TechRepublic which stated:
“DELETE A TEMPORARY PAGE FILE TO IMPROVE PERFORMANCE” Failure during a Windows 2000 Setup or a Windows 2000 service pack installation can sometimes result in the creation of asmall temporary page file, which isn’t deleted on completion. This temporary page file prevents Windows 2000 from creating its regular, larger page file when it boots. This causes poor performance because of the small size of the page file.
I happened to be having this problem at the time where Windows tells me that my pagefile is too small and needs to be increased. I increase the size but it is not recognized. Pagefile is set to 1150megs, but the system only can see 20megs. So I follow thesteps outlined in the aforementioned email… find the pagefile in %systemroot%, then restart the computer in recovery console… no pagefile to be found??? Restart the system in normal mode and sure enough no more pagefile. Where the heck did it go??? Meanwhile, I still have the original problem.
I feel really dumb that I can’t figure this out. I think I must be missing something obvious. Any help would be appreciated.
