paging file

By robert.enriquez ·
I have a question about my system. About every 60 days my system tells me that I have no paging file or it is too small, so it is going to increase the size. The next day the same thing and on and on and on until I have no RAM completely and my system is useless. Then I have to format and reload w2k again until it happens 60days later. What should I do?

Create a second partition of about 1 gig and after loading Windows go System/Performance and create a page file on that partition and remove the one from the C drive.

The answer is- To check the security on the c: drive and if the everyone and system is not on the drive they must be added and adjusted to full control. That will dump the paging file.

It is unusual that it follows a regular schedule of 60 days. Most times that I have run into memory problems like this it can be traced to a memory leak in an application. Increasing the RAM/pagefile size may just prolong the 'rebuild' time. Try running perfmon on the system for a few days to see where the memory goes. If I am completely wrong, at least you will know more about the memory use on your system to decide how to increase the pagefile performance or if an increase in physical RAMis a better choice.
